מבחינתי, אין שיר חזק יותר ליום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה, משירו של ליאונרד כהן - הפרטיזן.
החוט היהודי שעובר בשיריו של ליאונרד כהן כהן לאורך השנים נחשף תמיד במלוא המשא המכביד,בשיר זה.

השיר המתבסס על שיר צרפתי של חבר ה"רזיסטנס" הצרפתי באתה מלחמה, הוא סיפור שנוגע בעצב חשוף בלב כל מאזין יהודי. 

שורת הצמרמורת: "הרוח, הרוח נושבת דרך הקברים/ החופש מגיע"

ה-רזיסטנס, תנועת ההתנגדות הצרפתית (La Résistance intérieure français) היא שם כולל לתנועות ההתנגדות בזמן מלחמת העולם השנייה, אשר נלחמו בכיבוש הגרמני בצרפת ובמשטר וישי הפרו-נאצי לאחר כניעת ממשלת צרפת וצבאה ב-1940. תנועות ההתנגדות כללו קבוצות קטנות של נשים וגברים חמושים, של מוציאים לאור של עיתונות מחתרתית ואף של קולנוענים. תנועות ההתנגדות פעלו יחד עם הכוחות החשאיים של בעלות הברית, במיוחד במסירת מודיעין על החומה האטלנטית, בשיתוף פעולה בפעולות חבלה ובפעולות אחרות שתרמו להצלחת הפלישה לנורמנדי.

שיר אחר של ליאונרד כהן, שלא הרבה יודעים בעצם מה משמעותו (וטועים להשמיעו בחתונות) הוא השיר
Dance me to the end of love. לכאורה מדבר השיר על אהבה עד מוות אולם הוא נכתב למעשה על תזמורת המוות בכניסה לקרמטוריום במחנות ההשמדה.
